The application uses standard Laravel configuration files in config/:

OSM Location Data (Geofabrik Import)

Reisetagebuch resolves nearby points of interest (shops, stations, landmarks, ...) through the Overpass API by default, which can be slow or time out under load. As an alternative, you can bulk-import the same kind of data from a Geofabrik.osm.pbf extract directly into the database, ahead of time, so most lookups never need to hit Overpass at all. Overpass stays in place as a fallback for anything outside the extracts you import. Each extract is imported by its own queued job, so if one country fails (e.g. a large extract running out of memory) it can be retried on its own in Horizon without re-importing the rest.

To cover all of Europe, every country listed on Geofabrik's Europe download page is below — Germany, Austria and Switzerland first, then the rest of Germany's neighbours, then every other European country alphabetically. Since each extract now gets its own job, importing this whole list is safe to retry country-by-country if one of them fails:

WARNING

The russia extract alone is tens of GB and covers all of Russia's territory, not just its European part. Drop it from the list above if you don't need that coverage.

With extracts configured, the import runs automatically:

• once, the first time the app starts (so the data isn't empty until the first scheduled run), and
• on the recurring schedule above, to pick up OSM updates.

Both happen by running php artisan app:import-osm-extracts, which fans the configured extracts out into one App\Jobs\ImportOsmExtractJob per extract. Each runs on its own data-import queue, so this long-running, infrequent import doesn't compete with or block the app's other (short-lived, frequent) queued jobs, and a single country failing only fails (and can be retried for) that one job in Horizon. It's processed by the horizon service like everything else. You can also run it manually, e.g. for a one-off extract not in your configured list:

php artisan app:import-osm-extracts [extract-url-or-path ...]

This only queues one ImportOsmExtractJob per extract; the actual import happens asynchronously once a Horizon worker on the data-import queue picks each one up. Run without arguments, it imports whatever is configured in APP_OSM_GEOFABRIK_EXTRACTS.

TIP

This requires the osmium CLI. It's already included in the published Docker image; for a bare-metal or Sail setup, install osmium-tool yourself.

Träwelling Cross-Posting Configuration

To enable cross-posting to Träwelling, you'll need a Träwelling Application Key.

Go to your Träwelling settings > Your Applications and create a new application.

Your redirect URL should be set to http://YOUR-DOMAIN-NAME/socialite/traewelling/callback (for local development e.g.: http://localhost/socialite/traewelling/callback).

Make sure confidential is checked. Then click create.

Once you're back on the applications list, click the name of the application you just created. Copy the Client Secret and the Client ID.

Add the following lines to your .env file:

Two more variables exist for non-default setups and can usually be left unset:

Afterwards, you can go into your Reisetagebuch profile settings and connect your Träwelling account for cross-posting.
